Popcorn Ceiling Removal
From Dated Texture to a Clean, Modern Ceiling
Acoustic “popcorn” texture was sprayed on ceilings in many homes built through the 1980s, and plenty of Jacksonville houses still have it. It collects dust and cobwebs, is hard to clean or repair, and makes rooms look older than they are.
Safety comes first. Some older acoustic textures contained asbestos, so on homes built before the mid-1980s we recommend having a sample tested before any scraping begins. Once the ceiling is cleared for removal, we empty or cover the room, seal floors and walls with plastic, and turn off ceiling fans and HVAC in the work area.
The texture is dampened and scraped, the ceiling is repaired and skim-coated for a smooth finish — or given a light knockdown or orange-peel texture if you prefer — then primed and painted flat white. The plastic comes down with the debris inside it, and the room is cleaned before we leave.

FAQ
Popcorn Ceiling Removal Questions in Jacksonville, FL
Still have a question?
Call or text us — we are happy to talk through your project in English or Spanish.
(904) 674-7547Does popcorn ceiling contain asbestos?
Some do. Acoustic texture applied before the mid-1980s may contain asbestos, so for older homes we recommend testing a sample through a certified lab first. If it tests positive, removal must be handled by a licensed abatement contractor — we will not scrape it.
Can I stay home while you remove the popcorn ceiling?
Yes, in most cases. We seal off the room we are working in, and you can use the rest of the house. Plan on that room being unavailable until it is primed and painted.
Smooth or textured — which should I choose?
A smooth skim-coated ceiling gives the cleanest, most modern look but takes more labor. A light knockdown or orange peel hides minor imperfections and costs less. We will show you both options in your estimate.
